In the post-apocalyptic action/adventure I Am Alive, players are faced with thought-provoking choices in the role of a survivor on a journey to find his wife and daughter, who were lost during the “Event.” Arriving at his hometown of Haventon one year after it happened, he finds the town in shambles. Buildings are destroyed, toxic ash fills the streets, and society has been torn, causing inhabitants to take all necessary actions to survive. In I Am Alive, players will be challenged by both their environment and their enemies. Stamina and resource management are key when being exposed to deadly atmospheres and scaling enormous buildings in search of supplies. The unique combat system requires players to utilize intimidation: cowards are easily swayed with an empty gun, while other enemies will put players to the test. Disney has an interesting relationship with the games industries. Whenever a movie is made in to a game my usual reaction is; was this done for the money or to make a great game? Undoubtedly Disney wanted to cash in on their major release of 1993 which is understandable. So how did it turn out? Well, not so bad. As much as I want to not like an obvious cash camel when I see one, I did end up concluding that Aladdin really is not at all a bad game. It is aimed at the younger player so don’t expect too much in the way of challenge but there is a nice feel to the way the levels require you to pay attention to certain jumps or ropes to climb.This being a Disney game I was looking for great animation and I’m pleased to say it’s here. Aladdin looks bright and the animation fluid. The supporting cast of stereotypical bad guys also retain the look of the film. The games sound is also great. We all know about the Sega Mega Drives relatively basic sound processor but I feel that the renditions of songs were recognizable and about the limit of what you could expect of the hardware. The game itself is very much based on the film. The setting, characters etc. all make up the story. There seems to be a lot of apple stealing as well as slashing bad guys. It’s repetitive but it does look nice. I can recommend this one on the basis of a movie/game tie in that works well. In terms of retro quality the platforming is certainly there. It’s just not a patch on Sonic the Hedgehog though.
Ubisoft released what happens with the third iteration of Donald Duck: Goin’ Quackers (USA) Gamecube Iso. A title that originally debuted as a new concept on the Nintendo 64, Goin ‘Quackers’ saw a slight improvement for the PlayStation 2 and GameCube versions now. It is a platform game, to the bone – which is more geared towards a younger audience than anything else. It should give parents and eventually devote Goin ‘Quackers Disney fans an eye. You are in my webbed feet of one of the most captivating characters, Disney, Donald Duck. Only with your help, and his undying love for Daisy, you have the option to save them. Much more interesting than the plot, gameplay, of course. To say that is heavily dependent on Goin Quackers titles like Crash Bandicoot, Naughty Dog would be a huge understatement. It adheres to one of three formulas: to roll forward (top), side-scrolling, and sometimes vice versa-scrolling (in the direction of the screen). All this takes place in 3D, but it is the product of a 2D drawing in many ways. Move through the levels is self-explanatory, forcing him to jump over obstacles and enemies to avoid.
You have to love mysteries like these! Who knew there was a genuine second Super Mario Bros. “Lost Levels” game? Call of Duty Modern Walfare 3 Developed by Treyarch, Call of Duty 3 takes a bit of a different approach to the traditional COD world. Rather than playing in token battles of World War II and switching from area to area all over the map, Call of Duty 3 is based on one specific set of battles centered around the Normandy Breakout, working up until the liberation of Paris just 88 days later. Taking control of each region represented, players will jump from the American troops over to the Canadians and Polish, as well as the British forces as they push against the elite German Panzer forces. Breaking it down: Call of Duty 3 has been reworked and reinvented this time around, following a more specific story and centered around a more cinematic approach due to Treyarch's design. Taking a few notes from Call of Duty: Big Red One, the team has added a ton of cinematic flair, with constant action surrounding the player at all times and the same solid gameplay mechanic as the previous games. Where the title sets itself apart form the other console versions is in the revamped FPS control. Working along the same lines as Metroid 3: Corruption, Call of Duty utilizes a bounding box that gives the player faster and more precise controls, very similar to a PC mouse and keyboard. When the cursor is in the middle of the screen, the player is still. Start moving the Wii-mote against an invisible bounding box, however, and you'll start to move your character's head as well. The farther from the center of the screen you move the controller, the faster you'll turn. But does it work? That's the question on everyone's mind. After all, Call of Duty 3 got a huge graphical overhaul on the other next gen systems, so the game's control better be worth it, right? Well, the overall feel is definitely solid, but we wouldn't go as far as to say any and every player out there is going to enjoy it more than the traditional dual-analog setup. When you're in the heat of battle, the controller is amazing for snapping your head in a direction, sighting up while holding the A button, and then blasting a soldier with pixel-perfect precision. In that sense, it's a success. Still, there are a few control issues inherent in the FPS design at this point. While the ability to control turning speed is there, the sensitivity isn't as complex as we'd like it. Let us change the bounding box. Let us change the sensitivity of the cursor movement speed. Simply put, let us make the controls ours.
